Jones to give new tactics their debut
October 9, 2002

Wallaby coach Eddie Jones will unveil a set of new tactics to his squad today that he hopes will ensure they retain their World Cup crown.

The Australian squad gather for a skills camp in Couran Cove on the Gold Coast today and Jones will detail the new attacking strategies he has spent the last nine weeks working on.

Jones' tactics are thought to utilise the hard and fast surfaces that they will face when the World comes to town next year.

"We will be working on some new strategies in terms of how we play the game," Jones told The Australian.

"It is just a different way of doing things. A few different ideas to give us more flexibilities. It is designed for a flat track, which is what we have during the World Cup."

However, Jones played down the likelihood of his new ideas being evident on the forthcoming Wallaby tour.

"We will be practising them hard during the tour, but these things don't become part of your system overnight," he said. "It takes time for new ideas to infiltrate, especially at Test level."

"We are generally happy with our defence, but there are a couple of specific things we will work on," he added.
