Latham to miss tour?
October 20, 2002

Wallaby fullback Chris Latham is in doubt for November's tour of Europe and Argentina with an ankle injury he suffered at home.

With rugby league convert Mat Rogers waiting to try and grab a permanent spot in the team having come off the bench in each of his four Tests to date, Latham can ill-afford to miss the tour.

But the Queenslander rolled his ankle last week while playing with his daughter at home, and despite thinking it was only a minor problem, had it diagnosed as damage to the lateral ligament when the Wallabies went into camp in Coffs Harbour on Saturday.

With the squad set to depart for Argentina on Thursday, Australian coach Eddie Jones rated Latham as no better than a 50-50 chance to take his seat on the plane, with Waratahs winger Scott Staniforth on standby to replace him.

The Wallabies observed a momen's silence during their training in Coffs Harbour on Sunday, a session winger Wendell Sailor completed, and will also wear black arm bands in their first match of the tour against Argentina in memory of those killed and injured in the Bail bomb tragedy.
