Aussie, Kiwi ticket boost
October 21, 2002

An additional 45,000 tickets will be available to the Australian public for next year's Rugby World Cup after the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) negotiated the release of more tickets from the International Rugby Board (IRB) for All Blacks matches.

The tickets exclusively for New Zealand residents were originally to come from the ARU's allocation, but the IRB agreed to provide the tickets from its own allocation.

The special allocation was organised after New Zealand was stripped in controversial circumstances of its co-hosting rights to the tournament with Australia last April.

"I think we've reached a great outcome with the IRB which meets our commitments made to New Zealand rugby fans earlier this year," said Matt Carroll, the general manager of Rugby World Cup. "This is great news for rugby fans in Australia and New Zealand.

"On one hand New Zealand residents are still guaranteed exclusive access to World Cup tickets, while 45,000 more tickets flow back into the Australian ticket offers."

New Zealand is drawn in Pool D to play Italy in Melbourne on October 11, Canada in Melbourne on October 17, Repechage 2 (to be decided) in Brisbane on October 24 and Wales in Sydney on November 2.
