Ireland's team of believers
November 9, 2002

Ireland's nan of the match Victor Costello claimed their sensational 18-9 victory over Australia was all down to self-belief.

It was Ireland's first win over the world champions for 23 years and all the points came from penalties, with Ronan O'Gara kicking six penalties out of six to Matt Burke's three.

"This is what it is all about. This is what we worked for. This is what we
believe in," said Costello. "It was a matter of belief. We are a new team, a team that is going forward. It was fantastic."

Costello said the victory would prove to be a significant point in the team's
development. "If you beat the world champions of course you can build on it. You have to believe in yourself and we just have to go on."
