Born in England to a Scottish father and an Irish mother, Rob Henderson would go on to carve out a notable international career with Ireland as a strong-running, physical and versatile back.
Famed for his relaxed and 'amateur' attitude to the demands of a newly-professional sport, Henderson missed out on selection for both the 1999 and 2003 Rugby World Cups with his career highlight coming in the colours of the British & Irish Lions.
Henderson partnered Brian O'Driscoll for much of his Test career and the duo proved a formidable midfield pairing for the Lions during a closely-fought series against Australia in 2001.
A colourful club career, that also saw him utilised at fly-half, wing and fullback, took in stints with London Irish and London Wasps in England before he moved to Ireland to link up with Munster with whom he won the Heineken Cup. He would finish his injury-plagued playing career with Toulon in the south of France.
