Toulon have approached New South Wales Waratahs about the possibility of playing a one-off friendly match next year to decide the world's best club side, Midi Olympique reports.

Toulon, who are the French Top 14 and Heineken Cup champions, approached the 2013 Super Rugby winners, the Chiefs, with a similar proposition last year, but the idea never came to fruition. Now, they are proposing holding the fixture with the Waratahs during the Six Nations in either Nice or Monaco.

The Waratahs won their first Super Rugby title in 2014, beating the Crusaders 33-32 in an outstanding final in Sydney. Under Michael Cheika, the backline - containing the likes of Kurtley Beale, Adam Ashley-Cooper and Israel Folau - clicked perfectly into place this term playing some scintillating rugby to seal a maiden triumph.

Toulon have lost the likes of Jonny Wilkinson and Joe van Niekerk to retirement this year, but they have continued to add top quality talent to their squad in the shape of Leigh Halfpenny, Mamuka Gorgodze and Australian James O'Connor.
