Esteban Gutierrez has been given a ten-place grid penalty for the British Grand Prix after Sauber released his car from its pit box in an unsafe condition in Austria.

The team struggled to fit the rear-right wheel at his first pit stop, and although he only made it roughly 20 metres down the pit lane with the car in an unsafe condition, the mandatory penalty was applied. Alongside his ten-second stop-go penalty at the Austrian Grand Prix, Gutierrez will start ten places down on wherever he qualifies in two weeks at Silverstone.

Sebastian Vettel did not receive a penalty for the contact he made with Gutierrez on lap 36, which forced the Red Bull to stop for a new front wing. The stewards said it was in line "the new guidelines from the Formula One Commission" that have called for fewer penalties for minor offences.
