The Leicester Tigers have announced the appointment of ex-player and coach Paul Dodge as their new president.

Dodge spent 17 years at the Tigers as a player and made 437 appearances for the club. He also collected 32 England caps and ran out for the British & Irish Lions on their tour of South Africa in 1980.

He replaces Mike Harrison as president of the Aviva Premiership champions and executive director Peter Wheeler paid tribute to Dodge, saying: "Paul was a unique player for the Tigers, England and the Lions, and has served this Club continuously since he first came through the Welford Road doors in 1974.

"He has already made an outstanding contribution to the club, not just as a player, but also as a coach, guiding and developing hundreds of young players coming through our system. We're delighted that we are able to welcome Paul and Julia [Paul's wife] into the President's office."
