Wasps' Sam Jones believes he faces a battle to get back in the club's back row following his return from injury.

The 22-year-old suffered a frustrating pre-season and picked up a knock in the club's friendly with Connacht, but has since returned to full training.

However, from the sidelines he has witnessed captain James Haskell, Ed Jackson, Nathan Hughes, Ashley Johnson and Guy Thompson all impress in Wasps' strong start to the new Aviva Premiership campaign.

"I haven't had much of a chance yet but I'll keep training and hopefully take my chance when I get it," Jones told Premiership Rugby's official website.

"We have an immensely strong back row at the moment, there's so many of us and the starting three at the moment are doing really well and looking really strong.

"I just need to take every opportunity that comes my way and try and keep those guys on their toes and hopefully break into that back row. That's all I'm looking to do this season.

"Being injured is frustrating - I basically did all the hard work over the summer and then to get injured in the first ten minutes of that game was annoying.

"Wasps are all about progression. We've slowly been creeping up the table the last few years and we are looking to do the same this year.

"We've had a really tough start, but we've won two and come very close against two of the top teams so we should take confidence out of that."

Jones made 16 Premiership appearances last season and was speaking in attendance at the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup.
