The Springboks will face the Barbarians for the first time in six years next November in the opening match of their 2016 spring tour.

The World Cup semi-finalists will face rugby's most famous invitational outfit at Wembley on November 5 in what will be the eighth meeting between the two sides dating back to 1952.

And the Springboks, currently without a coach following Heyneke Meyer's departure, will be desperate for a victory having lost their two most recent encounters against the Barbarians.

"The rivalry between the Boks and the Baabaas goes back many years and has provided many historic occasions," SARU chief executive Jurie Roux said.

"To play them at Wembley next year for the first time will add a new chapter - this was the venue for the biggest attendance at the recent Rugby World Cup in England, when close to 90,000 packed the stadium to see Ireland take on Romania.

"It will provide the Springboks will an ideal start to their European tour."

It will be the Barbarians' first match at Wembley since the Olympic Centenary match against Australia in 2008, a fixture they lost 18-11.
