Julian Huxley is set to continue his sensational comeback with a start in the Brumbies' backline against the Cheetahs in Canberra on Saturday.

The former Wallabies utility is being lined up for a starting role after making his playing return against the Chiefs two weeks ago, two years after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. His performance in a narrow victory over last season's beaten finalists sufficiently impressed Brumbies coach Andy Friend, who is set to name him at fullback and shift Adam Ashley-Cooper to the wing.

"I thought he did really well last week to show he's got real class," Friend told AAP. "It looked like he hadn't been away for very long. It may well be that he's at fullback, with Adam Ashley-Cooper on the wing with Pat McCabe, which gives us three fullbacks in the outside back positions which is a handy spot to be in."

The Cheetahs were neatly dispatched 40-17 by the Brumbies' Australian rivals the Waratahs at Sydney Football Stadium last weekend, leaving the Tahs on top of the ladder after the Bulls' surprise loss to the Blues. Cheetahs boss Naka Drotske believes that their conquerors have what it take to win their first title this season, despite having been behind the Brumbies, who are seven points off the pace but with a game in hand, in many commentators' predictions.

"They can definitely win this competition. There's no doubt about," Drotske said. "The big thing about them is, they win their close games. And if you want to win this competition, you need to do that."
