Wallabies players should take a 50% pay cut or be subject to incentive-based contracts if they deliver another performance such as that delivered against South Africa in Brisbane, Nick Farr-Jones says.

The Wallabies have lost their past four Tests, having won just one of their four fixtures this year, and their form plumbed fresh depths when they lost 38-12 to the Springboks at Suncorp Stadium.

The Wallabies have conceded 191 points this year, including 112 points in three Rugby Championship Tests since Ewen McKenzie assumed the reins from Robbie Deans. and their efforts in Brisbane prompted Wallabies Hall of Fame inductee Michael Lynagh to say they were "in a hole … there is no aspect of the play where you'd say: 'That looks promising'".

Lynagh's Rugby World Cup 1991-winning halves partner and captain Farr-Jones went further, labelling the Wallabies against South Africa "an absolute debacle".

''It's a bit like our cricket team," Farr-Jones told Fairfax Media. "We can play well for two-thirds of the game but in the one-third we play badly, it leaves us in a huge hole. For rugby to make money and be profitable right across the game you need the Wallabies to play well.

''That's the biggest disaster, that's the biggest risk. If these guys keep playing like this, I'd give them a 50 per cent pay cut, put them on incentive contracts.''
