The NSW Waratahs have announced the re-signing of Wycliff Palu as well as their 38-man extended playing squad for the 2016 season.

Palu had finished his Waratahs career in 2015 and was due to head to Japan following the 2015 Rugby World Cup, but was sidelined with a hamstring injury, suffered during the Wallabies' win over Uruguay, and has since been given a one-year deal with his former club.

With 121 Super Rugby caps under his belt, Palu is the oldest player in the squad and says he's keen to return and take up the opportunity.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity. They didn't have to take me on, they could have picked someone else, there's a lot of young players coming through," Palu said.

"I'm the oldest now so that's a bit different. We're still doing a lot of the things we were doing before, still working hard, training hard. It's pretty exciting with the new coaches.

"I'm not going to change in the way I approach my rugby. I'll still go out there and be the best I can, but I also want to pass on my knowledge to the players."

The No.8 is one of 14 players with international experience, including newly signed former All Black Zac Guildford.

The Waratahs also announced the re-signing of Matt Lucas as part of their extended squad, but are yet to name their additional fly-half for the 2016 season.
