Toulon tasted their first defeat of the new season against football rivals Olympique Marseille at the Stade Mayol on Wednesday night.
The Heineken Cup holders tackled their sporting neighbours in a half rugby-half football clash in aid of a local cancer charity with an estimated 12,000 fans present to see a game that was jointly refereed by former France coach Marc Lievremont and ex-football star Eric Cantona.
Marseille edged their hosts 5-4 in an entertaining first half of football and the two sides battled to a 31-31 draw when they switched to an oval ball after the break. Toulon fullback Delon Armitage took a starring role in proceedings with two goals in the first half while his brother Steffon excelled in goal but both were outshone by the 47-year-old Cantona.
