Premiership Rugby will trial the new head-mounted Ref Cam at the J.P Morgan Asset Management Premiership Sevens Series.
The new head-cam follows on from the trial of the technology last season which saw the video camera mounted on the referee's chest. The venture, brought about by BT Sport, Sunset & Vine and Premiership Rugby, will start at Kingsholm on Thursday evening in the first leg of the Sevens Series.
"It is our duty to make rugby union as accessible to as many people as possible and the Ref Cam trial is a crucial part of this process. I'm sure that it will give people a remarkable insight of what the referee can see on a rugby field and how he interacts with players," Premiership Rugby rugby director Phil Winstanley said. "The viewer will be brought right into the heart of the action.
"We have been listening to the referees for a number of years via a radio link and we believe this is the next stage for rugby union. We are very grateful to Ed Morrison the RFU Head of Professional Referee Development and the RFU's referees for the way they have embraced this trial so far, and the open-minded way they have approached it."
