The Beijing Women's Sevens side staged a mid-match protest against a referee and ended up losing 71-0.
The side were aggrieved at having two of their players sent-off during the final of the China National Games and they stopped playing in protest to the decisions. Shandong showed scant regard for their protest and repeatedly ran in try after try to go from 15-0 to 71-0 while the other team stood, huddled in the middle of the field.
Reports claim Beijing boss Jiang Xuming shouted: "Change the referee and then we will go on playing." But the officials backed the Spanish referee and the game continued.
Liu Jingchao wrote in the Chinese Business Morning News newspaper: "Most of the Beijing players wanted to continue to play, and some of them even cried when the head coach decided to throw the match."
