Body painting has been used many times to help promote events, but the organisers of next month's London Sevens ensured decent coverage by going one step further and dressing up three England players as monsters.
The theme of the May 10-11 tournament at Twickenham is one of monsters, with spectators encouraged to dress appropriately. So Tom Mitchell, Marcus Watson and Mat Turner were up for helping with the PR.
The trio were asked to come up with ideas to reflect their character off the pitch and skills on it. Dangerously, their team-mates were allowed input as well.
The preparation and photoshoot lasted a grueling eight hours and involved a faux-fur morph suit, layers of body paint, some silicone prosthetics and a pair of fake ears and teeth.
Watson was given a third eye (to reflect his vision on the field apparently) and a scaly, streamlined appearance to give his monster an aerodynamic advantage and reflect his impressive speed. Turner was given a supernatural head and some fierce fangs, while Mitchell was layered with pink fur reflecting his role as a key playmaker for the team.
