Richie McCaw has enjoyed yet another victory, this time away from the rugby field, with the blue-blooded racehorse he part owns making a winning debut in New Zealand. Snapshot, a four-year-old, won by a nose at Te Aroha at the rewarding odds of $7.10.
McCaw, who celebrated his 100th game as All Blacks captain with victory over Wales in Cardiff on Saturday, races the gelding in partnership with former New Zealand team-mate Ali Williams, breeder Henrietta Duchess of Bedford and two other people.
Winning trainer Graham Richardson said the syndicate had a nice horse.
"It's great for racing, everyone is important in this game," Richardson told NZ Racing Desk of the high-profile connections. "That was a gutsy effort and he's got no idea what he's doing. He's got a lot of improvement to come and we've given him plenty of time. He could go through the grades on that. Onwards and upwards."
