Christine Ohuruogu was reported as only the fourth British woman to win a gold medal at the athletics World Championships. Who were the others? asked Kevin Summers

It's true that Christine Ohuruogu was the fourth British woman to win an individual gold medal at the world championships - but actually she did that in Osaka in 2007, when she won the 400m for the first time. In Moscow earlier this month she became the first British woman to win more than one gold, a feat achieved by the male athletes Jonathan Edwards, Mo Farah and Colin Jackson. The previous British female winners were Liz McColgan (10,000m in Tokyo in 1991), Sally Gunnell (400m hurdles, Stuttgart 1993) and Paula Radcliffe (marathon, Helsinki 2005). Jessica Ennis became the fifth woman on this list when she won the heptathlon in Berlin in 2009.
