What has happened to the golf World Cup, which used to be an annual event? asked Graham Browne

Golf's World Cup, which started life as the Canada Cup in 1953, was an annual event until 2009, with a couple of missed years.

After that it was decided that it was too difficult to fit it in on an annual basis, and it became a biennial event. It was played at Mission Hills Haikou in China in 2011 (the United States won for a record 24th time; South Africa are next with five).

The 2013 event will be played at Royal Melbourne in Australia in November.

Previous tournaments featured two-man teams from the competing countries, but this time it will be more of a strokeplay event, with the results of the top two players from each country being combined to work out the team winners.
