What happens if the safety car breaks down? asked Larry Edmunds
A good question and one where there does not seem to be a straightforward answer.
As far as we know the safety car has not broken down but there are always two on the circuit just in case. So if one won't work there is a back-up.
The problem comes if one actually broke down while out on the track. A thorough search through the regulations brings up no solution as to what would happen. We are on the case.
