Chilton is Mr Consistency
November 18, 2013
I noticed that Max Chilton has finished all his races this year. Is this a record from the start of an F1 career? asked Brian Welch
Max Chilton has coaxed his Marussia to the end of all 18 races so far this season, even if he's usually chugging along at the rear - his best finish so far is 14th at Monaco.
It turns out that this is indeed a record from the start of a career: the Portuguese driver Tiago Monteiro finished his first 16 races in 2002, for Jordan, before retiring in the 17th in Brazil.
In the previous race, in Belgium, Monteiro had finished eighth - his best performance, apart from a freak third place in the United States GP at Indianapolis, the race which only six cars started after a dispute over tyre safety.
For the past few years Monteiro has been taking part in the World Touring Car Championship: with two races to go he lies tenth in this year's standings.
