F1 drivers making their point
How many F1 drivers have scored a solitary world championship point? asked George Hope
There is a grand total of 25 drivers who finished their careers with one world championship point. The list includes some reasonably famous names:
Derek Bell, the five-times Le Mans winner; Slim Borgudd, the former Abba drummer; Johnny Cecotto, a former motor-cycling world champion; Guy Ligier, who later ran his own F1 team; and Alex Zanardi, who's still involved in motor racing today despite losing both legs in a horrific accident in 2001.
But there is one driver who ended up with only half a point: in the 1975 Spanish GP the Italian Lella Lombardi finished sixth, which should have been enough to earn her one point - but because the race was red-flagged after 29 of its 75 laps following a bad accident, only half points were awarded, and Lombardi received half of one. She remains the only woman to score at all in an F1 world championship race.
