How often have England won the Rugby League World Cup? asked Jim Wilson

Actually England have never won the Rugby League World Cup. They only started entering it as a separate entity in 1995: before that there was a combined Great Britain side (except for 1975, when there were separate teams from England and Wales).

And the Great Britain team lifted the first World Cup, in 1954, and also won in 1960 and 1972. In that inaugural World Cup, Britain beat hosts France 16-12 in the final at Parc des Princes - that was the only final to date not to have featured Australia, who have won nine of the remaining 12 competitions, and finished runners-up three times, most recently in the last one, in 2008, when New Zealand won for the first time.
