I noticed that Bernard Hopkins, who is nearly 49, is still a world champion. Is he the oldest boxer to hold a world title? asked Ryan Somerford
Bernard Hopkins, who was born in January 1965, is the current IBF light-heavyweight champion, having retained his title in a points decision over Karo Murat of Germany in Atlantic City in October.
He was 48 when he won this belt, by beating Tavoris Cloud in New York earlier in 2013. Hopkins actually became the oldest world champion in history back in May 2011, when he was 46, after another points decision over Jean Pascal earned him the WBC light-heavyweight title, which he later lost to Chad Dawson.
Hopkins broke the record previously held by George Foreman, who was 45 when he knocked out Michael Moorer to win the WBA and IBF heavyweight titles in November 1994.
