Amy Williams' memorable victory in the women's skeleton bob in Vancouver in 2010 was only Britain's ninth gold medal at the Winter Olympics.
The women's curling team, skipped by Rhona Martin, won gold at Salt Lake City in 2002, some 18 years after Torvill and Dean wowed the world with the Bolero - and a landslide victory - in the ice-dance competition at Sarajevo.
Robin Cousins (1980) followed John Curry (1976) as the men's figure-skating champion, and then you have to go back to the surprise triumph of Tony Nash and Robin Dixon in the two-man bobsleigh at Innsbruck in 1964.
Jeannette Altwegg won the women's figure-skating title in Oslo in 1952. There were two team golds before that: at Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1936 the British team won the ice-hockey tournament, while at the first Winter Games, at Chamonix in 1924, the British men's curlers won their competition.
For years this was thought to be an exhibition event, but in 2006 the International Olympics Committee confirmed it was an official medal competition. In 1908, Britain's Madge Syers won the women's figure-skating title - but that was part of the Summer Olympics in London (the first official Winter Games was not for another 16 years).
