I was impressed by Richard Kilty's gold medal in the World Indoor Athletics Championships. Has a Briton ever won the 60 metres before? asked Andy Turnbull
British men have a fine record in the 60-metre dash at the World Indoor Championships since their inception in 1985. Jason Gardener - the 'Bath Bullet' - won gold in Budapest in 2004, following bronze medals in Maebashi (Japan) in 1999 and Birmingham in 2003.
More recently, Dwain Chambers won a medal of each colour - gold in Doha in 2010, silver in Valencia in 2006 (in a dead-heat with Kim Collins), and bronze in Istanbul in 2012.
Linford Christie won silver in Seville in 1991, as did Darren Braithwaite in Barcelona in 1995, while Mark Lewis-Francis took bronze in Lisbon in 2001.
British women have had less success, the only medals being silvers for Heather Oakes, in the inaugural event in Paris in 1985, and Jeanette Kwakye in Valencia in 2008.
