You can keep your green jacket on
I'm a great admirer of Adam Scott, and wondered how many golfers had retained the Masters title? asked John Summerhayes.
Only three golfers have ever had the ticklish problem of presenting themselves with the green jacket for winning the Masters (by tradition the defending champion helps his successor on with the prize).
Jack Nicklaus won at Augusta in 1965 by a massive nine strokes, and retained the title the following year, although this time it was much closer - Nicklaus prevailed in an 18-hole playoff against Tommy Jacobs and Gay Brewer.
It was more than 20 years before someone repeated the feat: in 1989 Nick Faldo won the Masters after a playoff with Scott Hoch, and Faldo needed extra holes again the following year to see off the 47-year-old Raymond Floyd.
Almost inevitably, the other man to retain the Masters is Tiger Woods. He won in 2001, when his two-shot victory over David Duval meant he uniquely held all four major titles at the same time, and Woods won again the following year, beating Retief Goosen by three shots.
