After Bubba Watson won the Masters, how many left-handers have won a golf major? asked Ken Milton.
For years the only left-hander to win a golf major was the New Zealander Bob Charles, who triumphed in the British Open at Royal Lytham in 1963. Exactly 30 years later, Charles won the British Senior Open - at Lytham again.
Charles was finally joined as a left-handed major winner in 2003, when the Canadian Mike Weir won the Masters. Since then Phil Mickelson has won five majors - the Masters in 2004, 2006 and 2010, the PGA in 2005 and the British Open in 2013 - and Bubba Watson has won the Masters twice (2012 and 2014).
No left-hander has ever won a women's major. Indeed I believe Bonnie Bryant, in 1974, is the only left-hander to win an event on the American Ladies' Tour: "I'll never forget when I won," she said. "A newspaper asked me what it felt like to be a freak."
