Front and rear power

Was the late Jack Brabham the only man to win the world title in front and rear-engined cars? asked George Pascall.
Although a front-engined car won a Grand Prix as late as 1960 - Phil Hill won for Ferrari at Monza - the rear-engined cars had really taken over by then.
All three of Jack Brabham's titles - in 1959 and 1960 for Cooper, and in 1966 in his own car - came in vehicles which had the engine mounted behind the driver: so actually no-one won world titles in both types.
Sir Jack was, of course, the only man to win the world championship in a car of his own design, in 1966.
The only other driver to win a GP in a car bearing his own name was Bruce McLaren, in Belgium in 1968. Brabham won 14 GPs in all, seven for Cooper and seven in his own car.
