What's the lowest round in a professional golf tournament? asked Paul White

There has been just one instance of a round of 58 in a senior professional golf tournament, by Ryo Ishikawa in The Crowns event at home in Nagoya in his native Japan in 2010. His record - 12 under the par of 70 - came in the final round and helped him win by five strokes. Ishikawa, who was only 18 at the time, managed 12 birdies (and six pars). "I got off to a good start for the first time in four rounds, so I told myself not to give up for the title until the end," he said. "I was in a calm mental state for all 58 strokes."

There have been 14 rounds of 59 in official professional events. Six of them on the American PGA Tour, and one was by a woman - Sweden's Annika Sorenstam in Phoenix in 2001. Her amazing effort was one of five instances of a golfer finishing 13 under a par of 72.

The most recent 59 was carded by Jim Furyk in the second round of the BMW Championship (the former Western Open) in Illinois in 2013.
