Mansell the best on British tracks?
Steven LynchJune 27, 2014
I noticed that Nigel Mansell won the British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch in 1986 and at Silverstone in 1987. Has anyone ever won it at more different tracks? asked Michael Flanagan.
Two men actually won the British GP on three different circuits. Jack Brabham won the race in each of his three world championship-winning seasons, each time on a different track: Aintree in 1959, Silverstone in 1960, and Brands Hatch in 1966.
Jim Clark completed a similar hat-trick, actually winning three years running on different circuits - Aintree in 1962, Silverstone in 1963 and Brands Hatch in 1964. Clark won the British GP four years in a row (1962-65) and five times in all, a record equalled by Alain Prost in 1993. Nigel Mansell won it four times - at Silverstone in 1991 and 1992 in addition to the two mentioned above.
Jack Brabham is one of three drivers to have won the British GP on three occasions, the others being Niki Lauda (1976, 1982 and 1984) and Michael Schumacher (1998, 2002 and 2004).
