Has any football manager ever won the World Cup twice? asked Andrew Sargeant

After 20 World Cups, there's only one manager/coach who has won it twice - and it was quite a while ago. Italy won the second and third tournaments, in 1934 and 1938, and both times they were managed by Vittorio Pozzo.

Pozzo, who played his club football mainly for his native Torino, was in charge of the national team between 1929 and 1948, after a couple of brief periods before that. He died, aged 82, in 1968, not long after watching Italy win that year's European Championships.

Two men have won the World Cup as a player and then as a manager. Mario Zagallo was part of the Brazilian side that lifted the Cup in both 1958 and 1962, and was in charge of the team that won a famous triumph in 1970.

Later Franz Beckenbauer captained West Germany to victory in 1974, and managed the winning side in 1990.
