Napoli want Fellaini... for his hairstyle

De Laurentiis confirms Fellaini interest

If ever there was a bizarre reason for signing a footballer, Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has topped the lot after claiming he wants Manchester United flop Marouane Fellaini because of his big bushy hair.

Fellaini was an unmitigated disaster at Old Trafford last season, after David Moyes snapped up his former Everton player for a cool £27.5 million on deadline day.

United would be lucky to get half of that fee now after Fellaini failed to score in 21 appearances. He was so poor in United's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Bayern Munich that the Stretford End even ironically cheered when he managed to actually make an effective clearance.

That hasn't deterred Napoli, however, where clearly there are more important things than footballing ability.

"His hairstyle could be perfect for the Neapolitan style. I like his 'lion-hair'," De Laurentiis told Radio Kiss Kiss.

The Napoli president believes Fellaini would look sharp in a midfield pairing alongside shaven-headed Gokhan Inler, whom he bizarrely made wear a lion's mask at his unveiling in 2011.

"I have introduced Inler like a lion, Fellaini could compensate for his lack of hair," he added.

"They would make a nice pair. Fellaini has long hair, and the Swiss [Inler] is shaven. Together they have a hairstyle that looks like a lion's mane and three years ago I presented Inler with the mask of a lion!"
