Rory McIlroy was 25 when he lifted the claret jug after winning the Open Championship at Hoylake last month. That's pretty good going - but well short of the overall record.
Young Tom Morris was 17 when he won the first of four successive Opens at Prestwick in 1868. He succeeded his father, Old Tom Morris, who was the oldest Open winner at 46 in 1867.
The youngest winner of more recent years was Seve Ballesteros, who was only 22 when he won the first of his three titles at Royal Lytham in 1979.
However, McIlroy has now won three of the four men's majors: the only men to have completed three-quarters of a career Grand Slam at a younger age are a distinguished pair: Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
