Scotland beat USA 24-6 in Houston, Canada 19-17 in Toronto and Argentina 21-19 in Córdoba before crashing 55-6 to South Africa in Port Elizabeth in June. Vern Cotter, in his first matches in charge of the national side, used 42 players across the four games.

He had most game-time among the forwards, playing 283 minutes. He also took over from Greig Laidlaw as captain for Scotland's last two Tests of the tour.
The only other player to appear in every Test of the tour was prop, Geoff Cross. He came off the bench against Canada and started (but did not finish) the other three Tests,
