Which course stages the most Group One races, and which the least? asked Colin Winterton

There are currently 33 Group One (highest standard) races on the flat in Britain, including the five Classics. They are run on nine different racecourses.

Of those 33, 11 are run at Ascot and nine at Newmarket, including the 1000 and 2000 Guineas.

Three courses stage just one Group One race: Haydock (the Sprint Cup), Newbury (Lockinge Stakes) and Sandown Park (Eclipse Stakes).

Epsom stages three Group One races (the Derby and Oaks, and the Coronation Cup), as does York.

Doncaster holds two (the St Leger and the Racing Post Trophy), as does Goodwood.
