He once described himself as "one of the best strikers in the world", but Nicklas Bendtner has never quite lived up to his own billing.

Bendtner, who joined Wolfsburg from Arsenal this summer, is yet to score for his new club, but - naturally - insists that it is not his fault.

He was picked ahead of Ivica Olic for the 1-0 win over FC Augsburg this weekend, but failed to find the net for the eighth game in a row since moving to Germany.

But, rather than looking at his own game, Bendtner blamed his team-mates for his lack of goals.

"I want my first goal," Bendtner told kicker. "But when you don't even get a chance to score it, it's just frustrating.

"You are always disappointed when you are in a good position, but just don't get the ball."

Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking defended his striker. "He needs time to find his rhythm," said Hecking. "The next step he has to take is to be dangerous in front of the goal. Nicklas made a great effort. He's fully integrated. He has not played for months and months."

Wolfsburg sporting executive Klaus Allofs summed things up succinctly: "A goal would do him good."
