A record made in Rome?

Was Bayern Munich's 7-1 win at Roma the other day a Champions League record? asked Gerry Phillips
Impressive though Bayern's performance in Rome was, it wasn't even a record for the night - also on October 21, Shakhtar Donetsk put seven past BATE Borisov in Belarus, without reply.
The Champions League record is HJK Helsinki's 10-0 win over Welsh club Bangor City during the qualifying rounds in 2011-12, while the best in the group stages is Liverpool's 8-0 trouncing of Besiktas of Turkey in 2007-08. The record for the knockout stage is held by Bayern - they beat the Swiss team FC Basel 7-0 in 2011-12.
Higher scores were more common in the days of the European Cup, which the Champions League replaced in 1992-93.
Dinamo Bucharest beat Crusaders (Northern Ireland) 11-0 in 1973-74, while in 1969-70 the eventual champions Feyenoord hammered KR Reykjavik 12-2 in an early round.
The aggregate record is 18-0, by Benfica over the Luxembourg club Stade Dudelange in 1965-66 (8-0 away and 10-0 at home, when Eusebio scored four times and Jose Augusto also completed a hat-trick).
