Diafra Sakho has scored in his first six Premier League matches for West Ham - is this a record? asked Jeremy Hamilton

West Ham's Senegalese striker Diafra Sakho has equalled a long-established record by scoring in his first six Premier League games (in fact he's scored in his first seven matches for the club, as he also grabbed one in a League Cup game).

Micky "Who Ate All the Pies" Quinn also scored in his first six Premier League outings, for Coventry City in the inaugural PL season of 1992-93, although he had played in the top flight before, for Newcastle in what was then called the First Division.

Sakho has a little way to go before he threatens the record for scoring in the most consecutive Premier League games: Ruud van Nistelrooy managed 10 in a row for Manchester United in 2003, and also scored in eight successive matches in 2001-02.

If he finds the net in his next Premier League outing, then Sakho will join a distinguished group of six players who scored in seven in a row: Thierry Henry (2001), Cristiano Ronaldo (2008), Uwe Rosler (1995), Alan Shearer (1996), Mark Stein (1994), and Ian Wright (1994).
