Laura Davies just missed out on winning on the women's tour at the age of 51. Who are the oldest players to win on both men's and women's tours? asked Oliver Anderson

Laura Davies missed out on a play-off by just one stroke at the Mizuno Classic in Japan in November. Had she managed to win, Dame Laura would have become the oldest winner of an official LPGA tour event - a record still held by the American Beth Daniel, who was 46 in 2003.

The oldest winner of a prominent men's professional event - obviously excluding senior tournaments - is Sam Snead, who won the last of his record 82 titles on the PGA Tour in 1965, when he was 52.

Five others have won on the PGA Tour when over the age of 50, the most recent being Fred Funk in 2007. The oldest winner on the European Tour is the Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez, who was 50 in January 2014, and won the Spanish Open in May.

The oldest winner of a men's major is another American, Julius Boros, who was 48 when he won the PGA Championship in 1968.
