Having just become a double world champion, one could forgive Lewis Hamilton for waking up the next morning with a hangover to match.

However, the Mercedes driver has never been a big drinker. So, what is the best way to celebrate the morning after a title-clinching victory in Abu Dhabi? Apparently it's letting his hunger pangs win the day. In style? Only if poached eggs, beans and toast does it for you.

"For breakfast, I generally eat the same thing," Hamilton wrote in his BBC Sport column. "Nicole [Scherzinger, Hamilton's girlfriend] asked me if I felt like treating myself to anything different but I said no.

"My daily breakfast is two poached eggs in the morning with half an avocado and I get to have half a piece of toast. This year I had to be really light. I had to lose five kilos for this season and then the challenge was to keep that weight down.

"I'm allowed porridge but on the morning after the race, I had a little bit more than usual - I had three poached eggs, some baked beans and a couple of pieces of toast."

They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach and that appears to be the case with Hamilton. Instead of filling himself with victory champagne at the Mercedes team party on Sunday night, he again ensured he felt full.

"I had a nice dinner at the hotel with my family and we were sitting there reminiscing about the season. It was the first chance I had to just sit back and soak everything in," Hamilton said. "By the time we finished eating it was 1am and we then headed to a party afterwards - but I only stayed for half an hour."

He added, via an interview with the Sun: "I've never been a big drinker - I like waking up fresh and I don't like the feeling of the hangovers. I want this feeling to last.

"I woke up on Monday feeling fresh and my team wanted to do a press conference at 2pm. I asked to do it at 9am. Everyone was cranky the next morning because everyone else had been out after a long year."

The celebrations, though, soon died down and then it was back to business for Hamilton. He returned to London with Scherzinger on Monday evening, arriving late - although there was still time to line his stomach.

"We probably didn't get into the apartment in London until 11.30pm. Nicole and I had an Indian takeaway, I had the tikka masala. I had barely fallen asleep when the alarm went off at 4am on Tuesday morning."

His early rise was down to scheduled interviews in Manchester. A slight hitch in the plans arose, though.

"There was no time for breakfast, just straight into interviews, which I've loved doing. Soon it will all calm down and next week, I'll be at the Mercedes factory in Brackley, looking ahead to 2015."

And no doubt back to the porridge, too.
