Who has won the most money overall on the American golf tour? And in Europe? asked Andrew Williams

It's probably no surprise to discover that the leading money-winner on the American PGA Tour overall is Tiger Woods, with $109,612,414 by the end of 2014.

Even though prizemoney has increased hugely in recent years, Tiger is a worthy leader. He has topped the annual money list on ten occasions between 1997 and 2013, winning more than $10m a season in three separate years. Jack Nicklaus comes next, topping the money list eight times. Woods has won 79 events on the American Tour, behind only Sam Snead (82); Nicklaus is third with 73.

In second place overall is Phil Mickelson, who has won over $75m, while Vijay Singh is third with $68.5m. Jim Furyk ($61,911,633) is the only other man to have won more than $50m, although Ernie Els is not far short of $48m.

But Els is the leading money-winner on the European Tour, with €30,453,388, although he's only just ahead of Lee Westwood (€30,364,288). They are well clear of third-placed Colin Montgomerie (€24,557,589).
