How often have six English clubs all managed European Cup wins over the same weekend? John Cooper, UK

The first weekend of December was a red-letter day for English rugby clubs in the top European competition. The third round of matches brought wins for Leicester, Wasps, Harlequins, Bath, Saracens and Northampton.

It was only the third time that English clubs had recorded six wins and Leicester, Wasps and Bath were among the victors on each of the previous occasions.

The last time English clubs scored six out of six was exactly six years ago, when round three results were as follows:

December 5, 2008: Edinburgh 16-25 Wasps; Sale 36-6 Montauban
December 6, 2008: Calvisano 17-40 Gloucester; Stade Français 10-15 Harlequins; Leicester 38-27 Perpignan;
December 7, 2008: Bath 35-31 Glasgow

The other English clean sweep was in round five of the 2000-01 competition:

January 13, 2001: Northampton 32-24 Biarritz
January 14 2001: Wasps 28-16 Swansea
