Annika Sorenstam was recently made one of the first female members of the R&A. Did she win more women's golf majors than anyone else? asked Terry Lewis

The great Swedish golfer Annika Sorenstam won 10 women's majors during her career, including the Ladies' PGA, US Open and Kraft-Nabisco Championships three times each; the other one was the 2003 British Open.

That tally puts her equal fourth overall on a list headed by several Americans of a previous generation. Patty Berg won 15 tournaments considered majors between 1937 and 1958, Mickey Wright 13 (1958-66), and Louise Suggs 11 (1946-59). Babe Zaharias, yet another American, also won 10, between 1948 and 1954.

The tournaments considered to be women's majors has changed over the years; the current rota includes five - the US and British Opens, the Ladies' PGA, the Kraft-Nabisco, and the Evian Championship.
