Kempton Park and which other course have a race named after Desert Orchid? asked Martin Gledhill
The current racing calendar includes two races named after the popular grey horse Desert Orchid.
The more famous one is run at Kempton in December, usually the day after the King George Chase, which Dessie famously won four times between 1986 and 1990.
The Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton was first run in 2006, and was won in its first two years by Voy Por Ustedes, which also won the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in 2007.
In 2013, Sire de Grugy won the Desert Orchid; the following year he also won the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
The other Desert Orchid Chase is at Wincanton, where the horse also did well during his career. The winner in October 2014 was Pantxoa.
