The Triumph Hurdle, now a fixture at Cheltenham, was originally run somewhere else. Where? asked Matthew Wright

The Triumph Hurdle was first run in 1939, when Grey Talk won it, and resumed after the war in 1950. Until 1962 it was run at Hurst Park, not far from Hampton Court in Surrey, but that closed down later in 1962.

After a gap of two years the Triumph Hurdle reappeared at Cheltenham in 1965, and has been run there - over two miles and one furlong - ever since.

It's a race for four-year-old novice hurdlers, so there have been no repeat winners - but the roll of honour includes some famous names: Persian War (1967), Attivo (1974), Kribensis (1988), Commanche Court (1997) and Katchit (2007).
