The composed final-day performance that Graeme McDowell produced at the US Open in 2010 heralded his arrival at golf's top table. Prior to the one-shot triumph at Pebble Beach, the Ulsterman had not been a serial winner - he had only emerged victorious five times on the European Tour - but he held his nerve as more illustrious players fell by the wayside.
He proved the victory was no flash in the pan by standing tall in the final match of the 2010 Ryder Cup to seal victory over Hunter Mahan and with it the Ryder Cup for Europe.
McDowell endured a shock two-year title drought, ended at the 2012 World Challenge hosted by Tiger Woods, the scene of his last victory in 2010.
Career high:
Proving his mettle in difficult conditions during the final day of the 2010 US Open.
Career low:
He failed to finish in the top-150 in the 2006 PGA Tour money list, forcing him to return to the European Tour during the subsequent season.
Quote:
"It's been much more difficult than I ever imagined," McDowell said when questioned on how his life was changed by the US Open win. "I was struggling with it all a little bit and it's been tough to keep my focus."
Trivia:
McDowell turned professional in 2002 and won that season's Volvo Scandinavian Masters - only his fourth start on the European Tour.
