Khan heading for Peterson clash

WBA and IBF light-welterweight champion Amir Khan's long search for a December 10 opponent is coming to a close, with Lamont Peterson set to step into the breach.
After Erik Morales shunned the chance to compete in what will be Khan's last fight in the division before moving up to welterweight, he is now poised to face Peterson, the mandatory challenger for his IBF title.
"The next opponent for Khan is likely to be his mandatory, Lamont Peterson, but it might also go to a purse bid," Richard Schaefer, CEO of Khan's promoters Golden Boy, told BoxingScene.com.
America's Peterson (29-1-1, 15 KOs) fought for the WBO title in December 2009, suffering a unanimous points decision to Timothy Bradley, who also turned down the chance to fight Khan.
Since that bout, Peterson has recorded wins against Damian Fuller and Victor Manuel Cayo, sandwiched between a draw against Victor Ortiz - a fight in which he twice hit the floor in round three, before finishing strongly.
Khan intends to hold his first clash at welterweight in early 2012, before taking on Floyd Mayweather Jnr later that year.
