Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye intends to use skills learnt in boxing to forge a successful acting career, having quit the ring on Thursday.

Haye, who claimed titles in two weight divisions during his 27 fights, bowed out on his 31st birthday, as had been his intention for years. And now he is aiming to follow in the footsteps of sportsmen-turned-actors such as Vinnie Jones and Eric Cantona.

"Once you don't have any drive, focus or desire that's when I assume you start spiralling downhill so the acting will be something new for me. I want to go into action films. I am looking forward to it," Haye said.

"The next phase for me is trying to become the best possible actor I can be and taking the same sort of philosophy and mindset I had in the ring into the acting world. It will be a good way for me to keep training as well. My whole life I have been in good condition so I just have to keep that up."

Haye, whose charisma has been credited with reviving the heavyweight division in recent years, was granted a TV show interviewing celebrities prior to his clash with Wladimir Klitschko, and appeared on gameshow Red or Black during September.
